Music for Labor

Using music in labor and birth is a great way to relieve stress and try to relax. This doesn't mean that any one piece of music of genre works for everyone. To get the best pain relief you must produce endorphins when you hear the music. That means that you must feel a connection to the music - so only you can really choose the music that works for you.Mickey Heart (of Grateful Dead Fame) has designed over an hour of music to be played during labor and birth or as relaxtion in for pregnancy. The whole soundtrack is played to a track of Mickey's son, Taro's, heart beat. I first heard this when I wasn't pregnant and I actually found it annoying after a couple of minutes. When I became pregnant again, I actually remembered it and found myself wanting to hear it. It works really well for some people and is very relaxing and doesn't have the mental clutter that words can sometimes produce. When my husband begged me to change the music we listened to when we practiced our labor relaxation exercises in my last pregnancy I scoffed. Though I figured I'd give it a try and see how it went, after all we could always switch back once labor started. To my surprize, I loved the music. Some was sweet and melodic, others had a good beat that I could move to when I felt like it. I didn't realize what a profound effect that listening to this music had on me, until one day, more than a year after my baby was born, at the grocery store I felt this overwhelming sense of calm rush over me. Norah was playing on the radio. Compare PricesThis is another softer sound that works really well in labor. I've had many clients who used this album as they labored. The music is lulling you to relax and the words can be taken in or ignored fairly easily. Compare Pricesif(zSbL
