The fetus can also exert a lot of extra pressure on the rectal muscles, which can cause excess pain and straining.

Hemorrhoids during pregnancy may also occur because of an imbalance in hormones causing the veins to get to relaxed, which may cause swelling because of a hormone known as Progesterone. Because of this hormone slowing down, the gastrointestinal tract also slows which can eventually lead to constipation straining the rectum even more.

All in all, hemorrhoids are irritating and in some cases horrible, however they are not life threatening. The symptoms are almost the same for everyone with some people experiencing more or less than others.
